Graphite/Charcoal/ink on Rives BFK

With this drawing I was searching for a way to bridge the gap between abstract intuitive marks and actively rendered forms. With this approach I was able to explore the act of mark making in order to emphasize the nature of a suggested form, one that is both elusive and able to tap into the surrounding negative space. I wanted some parts to be stable and able to provide a core for the drawing while other sections are left feeling more uncertain and flow freely like the marks used to create them.
